In the light of recent events, a tragic incident happened in
America where George Floyd a Black Man was brutally murdered by around four
officers. This gave rise to a huge tidal wave of support for Black people that
are being oppressed by law enforcement agencies. Fashion brands have started to
show their support for the cause, many brands have launched clothes with labels
“Black lives matter”, not only that these brands launched movements on social
media platform and made a promise to support the cause financially as well. The
donation for the cause will serve as funds for bailing out the protestors.
Both Naomi Elizee and Akili King wrote a piece in vogue
saying that buying our products of beauty and fashion from business that are
run by black people in order to support the community. Other ways to help the
cause is to buy from brands that are supporting it, so that the donations help
the people to continue their fight against oppression. At a time like this all
industries are finding ways to amplify the voice of the protestors, the fashion
industry is using the top trending hashtag “Black lives matter” as labels upon
their clothes and campaigns, to spread awareness and remind people what they
are fighting for. Some names that are donating for the cause are, Parbal
Gurung, Mented, Jonathan Cohen, Medea, Marques’Almeida and many more.
